To develop in a sustainable way means to work together with all people involved.

Developing as a region for Taragalte Concept means to grow economically, strengthen social ties and live in accordance with nature. Our approach to sustainable development is to stimulate harmony between people and nature, therefore Taragalte Concept is trying to increase knowledge among local people as well as visitors about their surroundings; the vegetation and animals of the Sahara.

TOURISM

Since 20 years the region of M’Hamid is attracting more and more tourists. Tourism is a welcome addition to economic and social life in the region but it also brings challenges for the preservation environment. Taragalte wants to stimulate tourism that respects the environment. Visitors can experience the nomad culture by for example sleeping in traditional nomad tents while hearing traditional nomad music being played around the campfire. Together with the local community and Bureau East, Taragalte is working on an ambitious project to build an ecolodge.

ENVIRONMENT

Deserts are known as supporting very little life, but are in reality full of life. They typically have a plant cover that is sparse but enormously diverse. Plants and animals are uniquely adapted to the Saharan environment; they can stand extreme temperatures and have found different ways to store water. The last decennia fertile land is continuing to be transformed into desert, this process of desertification has many negative consequences for life in the Sahara. Palm trees play an important role in this process as they fix the sand and can limit the process of desertification. With this background the project “Plant a tree” was initiated together with Zaila and Sahara Roots.
