The Taragalte Cultural Exchange programme: a space for social design and cultural events.
Through the cultural exchange programme a new space for traditional art and design is created. Workshops with local crafters in collaboration with national and international artists and designers, will help to develop new possibilities for talented local crafters and sustainable products. The programme is a form of social design that contributes to the social, economical and environmental wellbeing of the region.
The nomads of the desert have various ceremonies, customs, traditions and events. Many of these traditions are still practiced today and form an important part of the nomadic lifestyle. In the cultural exchange programme Taragalte Concept aims at preserving this ancestral heritage by sharing it with communities all over the world.
In the light of cultural exchange Taragalte Concept initiates different projects. The most recent one is the Carpet of Life in which local crafts women turn old cloths into a vibrant carpet of life. M’Hamid also offers space for national and international artists to stay in the camp. These artists-in-residence will get the opportunity to be inspired by the traditional nomadic lifestyle, in particular their sustainable way of living. Visitors and the local community can profit from the outcome of workshops with artists-in-residence through exhibitions and product sale.
